Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- Submissions are accepted exclusively in English.
- Both the manuscript and the bibliography were prepared with full consideration of the ZfKE Author Guidelines.
- All illustrations, graphs and tables are inserted at appropriate places in the text and not at the end of the text.
- All pages are consecutively numbered.
- The photos of all authors are attached (resolution at least 300dpi). The upload is done in the next step "2. Upload Submission".
- A separate document with the author descriptions is attached (Sample: Prof. Dr. John Smith is Chairman of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Professor of Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship at the University, [Place]. He has served as a visiting professor at the Universities of [Place] and [Place]. His research focuses on inter-firm cooperation and stakeholder management of SMEs). For inclusion in the table of contents, an additional line with the following information is required: Prof. Dr. John Smith, Sample University, Chair/Department/Position, Sample Street 1, 12345 Sample City, Sample Country, Email address. The upload is done in the next step "2. Upload Submission".
- Formulas and figures: For printing, please attach the original files not included in Word or revised figures, i.e. separate image files (in the original format). All formulas must be created with a formula program (e.g. formula editor of Word, Math-Type or TeX). The formulas cannot be printed as embedded images. The upload is done in the next step "2. Upload Submission".
- The manuscript and the document with author descriptions are in Microsoft Word format.
- Please be careful not to include in the manuscript and metadata any grant identifiers or other explicit information that would indicate your identity as an author.
- The paper is previously unpublished and has not been submitted to any other journal.

I. Regular Research Articles
Maximum length: 45,000 characters, including the reference list.
Manuscripts submitted under this category are anonymized and sent to two members of the Editorial Board or external reviewers for peer review. The reviewers evaluate the manuscript, and their reports form the basis for the editorial decision as to whether the manuscript is accepted for publication, requires revision, or is rejected. If revisions are required, the revised manuscript is resubmitted to the same reviewers for final approval.
II. "State-of-the-Art" Articles
Literature reviews, review essays, or discussions of current concepts and research methods
Maximum length: 30,000 characters, including the reference list.
Manuscripts submitted under this category are anonymized and sent to two members of the Editorial Board or external reviewers for peer review. The reviewers evaluate the manuscript, and their reports form the basis for the editorial decision as to whether the manuscript is accepted for publication, requires revision, or is rejected. If revisions are required, the revised manuscript is resubmitted to the same reviewers for final approval.
III. "Entrepreneurship Compact"
Current Topics in Entrepreneurship and SME Research
Maximum length: 15,000 characters, including the reference list (approximately 10–15 references).
Contributions in this category are subject to editorial review.
