Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Articles should be formatted in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), "Author Date" variant.
  • In addition to the version embedded in Word, figures and tables must be supplied as independent files in their original format (eps., jpg, ecxel, etc.). The resolution of the illustrations must be at least 600 dpi.

Author Guidelines

Sociologus publishes articles from social anthropology and related fields that present empirical research results against a theoretical background. The reviewing is done anonymously by two reviewers.

The first page of the manuscript should contain:

  • Title of the paper in English and German
  • Name(s) of the author(s)
  • Abstract of max. 300 words in German and English, for English texts only in English.
  • 3-5 keywords in German and English

Figures and tables are in addition to the version embedded in Word as independent files
in their original format (eps., jpg, ecxel etc.). The resolution of the illustrations must be at least
600 dpi.

The author's address should be inserted as an asterisk footnote on the first page of the manuscript.

Length of manuscripts:
Maximum 55,000 keystrokes (including spaces, footnotes, bibliography, and abstract).

Headings should be organized in the sequence 1., 1.1, 1.1.1.

Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and used sparingly.

Please follow the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) in the "Author Date" variant.

Citations containing more than one complete sentence should be set off. For quotations in German, double quotation marks or, for quotations within the quotation, single quotation marks should be should be used. For English-language quotations, please use superscript single quotation marks. For omissions and annotations within quotations, please use square brackets.

The spelling of English-language articles follows the Oxford English Dictionary (UK version).

We ask authors to make an effort to use gender-sensitive language.
